Dictionary Word: Oesophageal Manometry

Oesophageal manometry is a diagnostic test. It helps diagnose various oesophageal disorders, such as achalasia cardia, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), and other motility disorders of oesophagus.

It measures the pressure inside the oesophagus and coordinated contractions of the muscles of the esophagus. It helps assess how well the esophagus functioning, particularly the lower oesophageal sphincter (LES) which prevents stomach contents from flowing back up into the oesophagus.
