The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), also known as the Screening Test for Foreign Medical Graduate has been introduced through Screening Test Regulations, 2002.
“An Indian citizen/Overseas citizen of India possessing a primary medical qualification awarded by any medical institution outside India who is desirous of getting provisional or permanent registration with Medical Council of India or any State Medical Council on or after 15.03.2002 shall have to qualify a screening test conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE).
National Board of Examinations shall conduct the FMGE December 2024 examination on 12th January 2025.It will be a computer-based test (CBT). The potential candidates can submit the application form for FMGE December 2024 exam online on the official website of NBE, till 11.55 pm on 18th November 2024.
FMGE Internship Eligibility Criteria
The latest FMGE Internship eligibility criteria as per NMC guidelines are:
- *Candidates must be a citizen of India or Overseas Citizen of India.
- *They should possess a primary medical qualification, confirmed by the Indian Embassy concerned.
- *Their overseas qualification must be recognized for enrolment as medical practitioner in the country in which the institution awarding the degree qualification is situated.
- *Candidates must complete the internship within 2 years from the date of qualifying for their overseas examination.
*They must have scored the minimum passing marks i.e. 150 out of 300. - *The result of final examination for the overseas primary medical qualification should have been declared on or before 31st October 2024.
- *Candidates should fulfil the eligibility criteria set by the respective State Medical Council.
- *Candidates should possess required documents like valid Passport and Adhaar Card should be submitted to respective authorities.
Internship Rules
- *Candidates must complete the 12 months of training post-qualifying for the FMGE exam to request NMC registration to practice in India.
- *The duration of the internship may extend to 24 months in some exceptional cases as per NMC rules.
- *Candidates must complete their internship within two years from the date of qualifying for the FMGE exam.
- *The State Medical Council shall allot medical hospitals/institutes for internship.
- *Medical institutes/colleges cannot charge any fee for internship.
- *FMG Interns will get a stipend equivalent to that of an Indian medical intern as per respective state govt. rules.

The National Medical Commission has released a list of recognized hospitals for doing internship where illegible foreign medical graduates can apply for the internship. More than 23,000 seats are available in approved institutions.
